Farming News/Mart Reports – Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 03-08-2023
According to Brendan Egan, 500 lots presented for sale at Castlerea Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023,
The mart manager quotes that quality stores remained a “fine” trade, while stronger, more forward lots obtained prices “relative to beef quotes at the moment”.
Quality, store heifers made up to €3.21/kg, while bullocks pushed up to €3.49/kg.
Forward bullocks maxed out at €1,920 and heifers made up to €1950, while cows with calves changed hands for up to €2620 and dry cows climbed to €1960.
The weanling rings witnessed the bulls peak at €3.24 a kilo and the weanling heifers topped out at €3.90 a kilo.
The calf and runner rings, with increased numbers on offer, recorded an “excellent” clearance, according to Egan.
