Carnew: Cattle up €20-€30/hd with tops of €2,620

Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 14-01-2023

According to David Quinn, heavy and beef cattle were up by €20-€30/head at Carnew Mart on Saturday, January 14^th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that a “very large” entry – circa 1,250 lots – came under the hammer at its most recent cattle sale.

He remarked that cull cows sold to €2,620, while bullocks peaked at €2,510 and heifers soared to €2,110.

• Heavy continental cows – €1750-€2620;
• Continental store cows – €1150-€1900;
• Heavy FR cows – €1420-€1910;
• Store FR cows – €620-€1220.

Prices:

• CH – 892kg at €2620;
• LM – 850kg at €2440;
• LM – 862kg at €2390;
• LM – 876kg at €2220;
• LM – 766kg at €2040.

Bullocks:

• Continental beef/forward €1650-€2510;
• Continental store €970-€1710;
• Heavy AA/HE – €1450-€2180;

Opening sale of 2023

According to David Quinn, some 750 cattle and 100 calves crossed the scales at Carnew Mart’s opening cattle sale of 2023 on Saturday, January 7^th.

According to the mart manager, an “excellent” trade prevailed for all classes and prices were up by €50/€70/head on pre-Christmas levels.

Prices reached €2,400 in the bullock ring, €2,180 in the heifer category, €2,380 in the cull cow ring and bulls soared to €1,600.
