End of an era for forage transport wagons

CARGOS wagons 

CLAAS has announced that it will discontinue the production of its CARGOS loader and forage transport wagons at the end of the 2022 season.

The machinery giant has made the move in response to a global decline in unit sales.

In a statement, a firm spokesperson pointed out that the self-loading wagon harvesting method is “becoming progressively less important” than the forage harvester.

They highlighted that they have consistently adjusted the product range’s long-term developments to global trends and the growth strategy at CLAAS.

In turn, they say that this means that the loader wagon segment is evolving even more than before into a “shrinking, niche” market sector with a regional focus.

For these reasons, CLAAS will discontinue the line to pave the way for additional capacity for ORBIS production.

They added: “The renowned premium CLAAS service when it comes to the supply of spare parts and customer service for the CARGOS series will continue to be guaranteed as usual in the future.”

The firm confirmed that it will continue to professionally address any ongoing service issues with the support of product development from Bad Saulgau.

€40m investment in site

Meanwhile, the company has also confirmed that it will invest c. €40m in the years ahead to rebuild this site.

The core aim is to adjust production capacities to meet increasing demand and further future growth.

As part of an ongoing investment programme, the firm is expanding and upgrading the site’s infrastructure.

Furthermore, it is designing an existing 5000 m2 hall to create additional assembly space.

In parallel, it is adapting the entire energy infrastructure and upgrading it over several stages to meet future production capacity.

Furthermore, investments in the areas of production logistics and assembly optimisation will follow.
