Shippers & farmers active in Ennis – spokesperson

Farming News/Mart Reports – Cattle Prices – Ennis Mart – 15-08-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 300 lots crossed the scales at its recent cattle sale on Tuesday, August 15^th, 2023.

They noted that “bull weanlings met a fine trade with both shippers and farmers active as these made to €3.97/kg”.

“Heifer weanlings were on par with last week and these made to €3.27/kg,” the spokesperson noted.

In addition, a small entry of calves made to €565 for a three-month-old LM bull, while a smaller entry of sucklers reached €2,520 at Tuesday’s sale.

• LMX – 360kgs – €1,180 – €3.27/kg;
• SAX – 390Kgs – €1,180- €3.02/kg;
• CHX – 490kgs – €1,500 – €3.06/kg;
• 2 LMX – 350kgs – €1,100 – €3.14/kg;
• 2 LMX – 440kgs – €1,330- €3.02/kg;
• CHX – 370kgs – €1,190 – €3.21/kg;
• CHX – 405kgs – €1,260 – €3.11/kg;
• CHX – 255kgs – €770 – €3.01/kg.

Weanling bull prices:

• CHX 375kgs – €1,490 – €3.97/kg;
• 2 CHX 250kgs – €960 – €3.84/kg;
• LMX 410kgs – €1,490 – €3.63/kg;
• LMX 190kgs – €770- €4.05/kg;
• BBX 405kgs – €1,400 – €3.45/kg;
• CHX 375kgs – €1,360 – €3.62/kg;
• CHX 365kgs – €1,360 – €3.62/kg;
• LMX 365kgs – €1,340 – €3.67/kg.

Calf prices:

• FR male out of FR cow – 28-02-2023 – €175;
• LMX heifer out of FR cow – 05-05-2023 – €270;
• LMX male out of FR cow – 01-05-2023 – €395;
• AAX male out of FR cow – 18-07-2023 – €145;
• SAX male out of FR cow – 09-07-2023 – €365;
• FR male out of FR cow – 28-02-2023 – €175.

Previous week:

Numbers were “up slightly” on the previous week at Ennis Mart, Co Clare on Tuesday, August 8^th,2 2023, with almost 300 on offer.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that “trade held steady all around again, with shippers very active in the bull ring and underpinning the trade”.

“Heifer weanlings are just holding the trade. Meanwhile, there was a larger than expected entry of calves with 50 on offer and a number of these 3 to 4-months-old.”
