Farming News/Mart Reports: Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 17-08-2023
According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 750 lots came under the hammer at Thursday’s (August 17th, 2023) sale, with a mix of both forward and store cattle in both the bullock and heifer rings.
They noted that forward cattle were up at least €20-30/head on the previous week’s levels.
The spokesperson said: “A few more farmers were about today for stores.”
“Store bullocks hit €3.30/kg. Some great continental cows were on offer and these averaged €2.24/kg with tops making to €2.65/kg.”
“A handful of aged bulls averaged €2.00/kg, with a top price of €2,300 for a Limousin bull of 955kg.”
“The highlight of the day was an 8-year-old CHX bullock weighing 1,035kgs making €2,440,” the spokesperson added.

Tuesday’s cattle sale
According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 300 lots crossed the scales at its recent cattle sale on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023.
They noted that “bull weanlings met a fine trade with both shippers and farmers active as these made to €3.97/kg”.
“Heifer weanlings were on par with last week and these made to €3.27/kg,” the spokesperson noted.
In addition, a small entry of calves made to €565 for a three-month-old LM bull, while a smaller entry of sucklers reached €2,520 at Tuesday’s sale.
