Kilkenny Mart – cattle prices – 27-01-2022

According to George Candler, just under 800 lots passed through the rings at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, January 27^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that the sale attracted over 220 cull cows, which “exceeded last week’s excellent prices”.

He added that a slightly smaller entry of bullocks turned out for sale, with a “buoyant” trade prevailing in this ring.

Candler added that heifers, especially lighter store-types, recorded the “biggest” increases of €20-€40/head on last week’s returns.

Speaking following the sale, he said:

“All a lot of locals around Kilkenny went racing to Gowran Park, but there was as much excitement in both sales rings where the trade still continued to race away in the right direction.”

“The strength of the cull cow trade can be gauged by the fact that Friesian cull cows did not drop below €1.20/kg and quality continentals ranged from €2.25 to €2.45/kg,” he added.
