The Irish Limousin Cattle Society is set to host its first autumn show and sale of the year on Saturday, November 5th, at Roscrea Mart in Co. Tipperary.
77 bulls and 26 heifers are set to go under the hammer, with selling to get underway at 1.30 pm.
Before the sale, the animals on offer will be on shown and judged by Chris Neale.
Neale will begin judging at 9:30a.m, which will be live-streamed on the society’s Facebook page and website.
Limousin bull sale
According to a society spokesperson, the bulls entered in this sale represent some of “the very best high-value Limousin genetics, coming from herds with excellent health status”.
“With progeny from over 40 different sires to choose from, the sale will have a bull to suit every production system, with leading British and AI sires represented on the day.”
Some of the sires with progeny on offer at the sale, but not limited to, include:

Large selection of high-genetic merit bulls
The society spokesperson continued: “Whether it is an easy-calving, high-maternal or a proper heavily muscled bull to produce sale-topping weanlings, the bull for the job will be at Roscrea.”
“All-in-all, there will be a large selection of high-genetic merit Limousin bulls at Roscrea Mart on Saturday, offering easy-calving, growth, shape and excellent maternal traits.”
All bulls selling for €4,000 or over at the mart’s sale ring will receive a €400 voucher towards the purchase.
All bulls are:
- Export ready on the day of sale;
- Fertility tested and come from herds with high health status;
- From herds that participate in CHECS Johne’s accredited testing;
- From easy-calving bloodlines;
- Furthermore, there will be free transport to central locations in Northern Ireland.
The Irish Limousin Society offer a finance package – allowing farmers to spread the cost of buying a Limousin stockbull over a few years.

Limousin genetics doing the business in the west
Farming on fragmented land close to the town of Elphin, Co. Roscommon made up of both owned and leased ground, John McDermott runs a suckler-to-weanling enterprise comprising 25 suckler cows and their progeny.
Juggling two enterprises, a full-time off-farm job and a young family, John’s time is scarce at the best of times.
Therefore, he requires a simple and easy-maintained suckler herd, and that is why he chose Limousin.
Purchased from local breeder Michael Gunn, it was this Ulm stockbull that formed the foundation of his now Limousin-cross suckler herd.
“The Limousin breed has been a game changer for our farm,” John commented.
“The cows are easily calved, and the heifers develop into super cows, exceptional mothers and also consistently calve unaided.”
“With an abundance of milk, these cows produce premium-quality calves every year,” he added.
“Before going to work in the morning, there is very little time wasted with the calves.”
“The Limousin calves are much more vigorous compared to previous calves from other breeds.”
“Also, I have had no sections since switching to the Limousin, whereas I would have had a few sections with other breeds when using AI.”
