Pairs to €2,580 and in-calf lots to €2,300 in ‘strong’ trade at Ennis

Numbers were back from last week’s show & sale at Ennis Mart, but trade held especially for quality lots at its most recent sale on Tuesday, August 30^th, 2022.

The spokesperson noted that runners are beginning to appear, and these met with “a strong demand”.

In the suckler section, at Tuesday’s sale, pairs reached €2,580, and in-calf lots topped out at €2,300.

Weanling heifer prices:

• HEX – 495kgs – €1,090 – €2.20/kg;
• BBX – 390kgs – €1,160- €2.97/kg;
• LM – 410kgs – €1,080 – €2.63/kg;
• CHX – 345kgs – €1,100 – €3.19/kg;
• LM – 255kgs – €800- €3.14/kg;
• CH – 315kgs – €1,020 – €3.24/kg;
• 2 LM – 297kgs – €900 – €3.02/kg;
• LM – 350kgs – €1,000 – €2.86/kg.

Weanling bull prices:

• LM – 260kgs – €960 – €3.69/kg;
• CH – 450kgs – €1,470 – €3.27/kg;
• 2 LM – 245kgs – €870 – €3.55/kg;
• LM – 430kgs – €1,360 – €3.16/kg;
• LMX – 385kgs – €1,240 – €3.22/kg;

Last week’s cattle sale

A Belgian-Blue-cross-Limousin heifer crossing the scales at 380kgs and changing hands for €3,580 (€9.42/kg), was the highlight of Ennis Mart’s weanling show and sale on Tuesday, August 23^rd, 2022.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that just under 800 weanlings came under the hammer.

Speaking following the general cattle sale, they said:

“There were some fabulous entries on offer, especially in the bull ring of all weights.”

“In the bull ring, it was a mixture of farmers buying to castrate, bull beef finishers and shippers, whereas in the heifer ring, farmers and feeders that were active.”

“A great demand prevailed for heavy bulls. A small entry of suckler stock met a strong demand, with pairs hitting €2,500 in in-calf lots to €2,080,” the spokesperson added.
