Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 14-02-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, some 850 lots came under the hammer at its general weekly cattle sale on Tuesday, February 14^th, 2023.

The spokesperson reported that trade was “very strong all around”, especially for quality in both the bull and heifer rings.

The spokesperson reported that suckler stock met with a “strong” trade for a small entry with pairs to €2,980 and in-calf lots to €1,740.

Meanwhile, bull weanlings fetched up to €4.35/kg, and heifers topped out at €4.58/kg.

The spokesperson continued: “55 calves were available at Tuesday’s sale with a top call of €680 for a month-old Limousin bull.”

“The better Friesian bull calves made €80 to €205, whereas light bull calves made from €50 to €80.”

“Aberdeen Angus-cross calves ranged from €130 to €205, while Hereford-cross calves made from €125 to €305,” the spokesperson added.

Last week’s prices

Prices skyrocketed to €3,420 in the cull cow ring at Ennis Mart’s annual show and sale of cows and heifers on Thursday, February 9^th, 2023.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that some “fabulous” cows came under the hammer, with some lots exceeding the €3,000 mark.

They continued: “There was a very large heifer sale of 400 lots, with some excellent types on offer, including some great store heifers.”

“A 99% clearance was achieved. Over a dozen aged bulls averaged €2.58/kg with a Belgian Blue bull of 990kgs making €2,470,” the spokesperson added.
