Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 09-02-2023
According to Brendan Egan, some 550 lots, passed through the rings at Castlerea Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, February 9th, 2023.
The mart manager reported that prices continue to “strengthen” on the back of “strong” farmer buying, export demand and northern interest.
Bullocks soared to €2240, heifers peaked at €2,070, while dry cows made up to €2,520.
Egan commented: “Breeding stock made up to €2,400, while the calf trade has started off brightly, especially for quality lots.”
“The weanling rings noticed increased numbers this week, and sellers were left satisfied with bulls making up to €4.19/kg, while heifer weanlings peaked at €3.87/kg,” Egan added.

- Cows with calves at foot sold for up to €1710, while springers pushed from €1330 to €2400;
- Runners went under the hammer from €350 to €1000.
