Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 02-02-2023

According to Brendan Egan, as we enter spring trade, prices “continued to strengthen” at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, February 2^nd, 2023.

He reported that extra farmers and strong export demand led to increased prices at this week’s general cattle sale, which attracted some 650 animals.

The mart manager reported that the weanling trade, in particular, witnessed increased prices, with bulls peaking at €4.14/kg, while heifer weanlings followed at €3.74/kg.

The bullock and heifer rings, Egan added, reported “good” clearances with bullocks at €2,150 and heifers at €2180, while dry cows soared to €2,280.

• Young calves went under the hammer from €65 to €330 per head, while runners changed hands from €260 to €1120 for continental lots.
