Prices to €2,040 in ‘very lively’ trade at Carnew

Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 08-10-2022

According to David Quinn, just under 1,100 lots and a further 140 calves came under the hammer at Carnew Mart on Saturday, October 8th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that a “very lively” trade both ringside and online at its most recent sale. Farmer and factory agents were “very active” around the ring.

Heifer prices:

  • Cont Beef/Forward €1400- €2040;
  • Cont Stores €820 -€1560;
  • Heavy AA/HD €1320-€1680;
  • Store AA/HD €650-€1210.

Sample prices:

  • CH – 520kg at €1560/€3.00/kg;
  • CH – 524kg at €1550/€2.96/kg;
  • LM – 566kg at €1660/€2.93/kg;
  • LM – 528kg at €1520/€2.88/kg;
  • CH – 540kg at €1550/2.87/kg.

Bullock prices:

  • Cont beef/forward – €1650-€2320;
  • Cont store €1080 – €1750;
  • Heavy AA/HD – €1350-€1800;
  • Store AA/HD – €840-€1250;
  • Heavy FR – €1100-€1610;
  • Lighter FR – €450-€1020.

  • LM – 599kg at €1820 – €3.04/kg;

Last week’s weanling prices

According to Quinn, on Wednesday evening the mart hosted the Irish Charolais Cattle Society-sponsored weanling sale.

He reported that some 508 head met with “a very lively trade throughout”. Quality bulls changed hands for €3.50/kg, while some “super” calves sold to over the €4.00/kg bracket.

Bull prices: 

  • 385kg – €1430;
  • 378kg – €1400;
  • 394kg – €1420;
  • 390kg – €1400;
  • 364kg – €1290;
  • 392kg – €1380.

Heifer prices:

  • 426kg – €1560;
  • 342kg – €1220;
  • 400kg – €1300;
  • 460kg – €1420.

Prize winners:

  • 1st: Lot 1058 sold by Joe Ryan 342kg at €1220;
  • 2nd: Lot 1045 sold by Seamus McHugh 412kg at €1560;
  • 3rd: Lot 1007 sold by Patrick Kinsella 2CH Hfrs 364kg at €940.

Bull weanlings:

  • 1st and 2nd sold by Joe Ryan 2 CH bulls – 336kg – €1010
  • 3rd: Noel Cosgrave CH bull – 390kg – €1400.

1st and 2nd bulls

  • Lot 2154 sold by Mr Joe Ryan 385kg at €1430, presented by judge Sharon Rothwell
  • 2nd place: Heifer sold by Mr Seamus McHugh 412kg at €1560;
  • 3rd place: Bull sold my Noel Cosgrave 390kg at €1400.

  • Friday Ring 1– Dry cows commencing at 4.00pm – depending on time of year
