Some 350 sheep were on offer at a sheep sale held at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, January 18th, 2021 with prices outlined below.
Lambs/hoggets met with an excellent trade, according to auctioneer, George Candler.
“An excellent trade for both sheep and dairy stock in Kilkenny with a complete clearance in both categories.”
“The fact that sheep numbers are scarce is helping the trade with only 350 on offer in Kilkenny.”
“Our dairy sale attracted plenty of interest for the 80 animals on offer, helped by the fact the bulk of the cows and heifers comprised of a dispersal sale of 55 head. We will be holding a dairy sale each Monday in conjunction with our sheep sale.”

Butcher lambs – €2.50-€3.08/kg or €132-€157/head:
- 10 62kg – €155;
- 8 54kg – €152;

Factory lambs – €2.80-€3.08/kg or €115-€137/head:
- 10 47kg – €137;

- Cast ewes – €90-€150/head.
Dairy stock:

Sheep mart prices
A similar-sized entry went under the hammer at the mart’s sheep sale last week.
George Candler reported an “excellent” trade for all sheep with a top call of €145/head for lambs and cull ewes.
“All an excellent trade for lambs with the fact that numbers are small helping to create a good trade. Hopefully, the confidence that has returned to the trade since 2020 will continue.”
