Man (60s) in ‘critical condition’ after vehicle strikes ditch

A male (60s) is in a “critical condition” in hospital after his vehicle left the road and struck a ditch in Co. Leitrim earlier this afternoon (Sunday, November 21st, 2021).

An Garda Síochána attended the scene of the single-vehicle road traffic crash in Fivemilebourne, Dromahair.

In a statement, a spokesperson said:

“Gardaí in Manorhamilton attended the scene of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at Fivemilebourne, Dromahire, Co. Leitrim this afternoon.”

“The collision occurred shortly after 4 p.m. The male driver (early 60s), the sole occupant of the vehicle, left the road and struck a ditch.”

“No other vehicle was involved in the collision. He was removed from the scene to Sligo University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.”

Gardaí confirmed that the road is currently closed, and local diversions are in place.

They are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the R278 at Fivemilebourne this afternoon to make this footage available to Gardaí.

They have asked anyone with information to contact Manorhamilton Garda Station on (071) 9820620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

‘No injuries’ reported following tractor and van crash

Gardaí attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision involving a tractor and van in Co Laois last during the week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, shortly before 8 p.m. on the Ballyfin Road in the country.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, today (Thursday, November 18th, 2021), a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle traffic collision that occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021, on Ballyfin Road, Portlaoise, Co Laois.”

“No injuries were reported following this collision. The road involved in this collision is currently open for use,” the spokesperson concluded.
