€610 for 1-month-old Charolais heifer at Ennis

Just over 370 lots turned out for a cattle sale held at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, with sample prices outlined below.

A mart spokesperson reported that trade was similar to the previous week, especially for quality lots.

“More calves available today and the tops of these made to €610 for a Charolais heifer a month old.”

“A handful of Friesian bull calves averaged €120 but these were approximately a month old. Again. a number of suckler stock on offer and in-calf lots made to €1,510 and pairs made to €2,030.”

“There were some very fancy prices for top-quality heifers. “The bulls over 450kgs would be the hardest of the bulls sold unless they were young and capable of being finished under 16 months.”

Ennis Mart cattle prices last week

Just over 200 lots were on offer at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, January 12th, according to a report from a spokesperson.

They reported a “strong” trade with “plenty demand for all types of stock”.

The sale attracted a small number of calves and these peaked at €590 for a Charolais bull. Furthermore, there was one Friesian bull calf on offer, and he sold for €140.

“Quite a few suckler stock on offer with a top call of €2,010.  A small selection of runners and heifers in this ring made to €570 and runner bulls made to €620. Weanling trade was strong and slightly better than pre-Christmas.” the spokesperson concluded.
