A 99% clearance was recorded in the cull cow ring at Elphin Mart on Monday (October 19th), according to Gerry Connellan.
The mart manager reported good demand for good quality. The average achieved was €1,185 as prices ranged from €290 to €1,830 for an 895 kg Limousin.
Cows & calves
An 85% clearance of suckler pairs was recorded, the mart manager added. The average achieved was €2,258. Entries ranged from €1,540 to €2,900 for a Limousin with a heifer calf at foot.
Cows with bull calves – The average price achieved was €3,125 with prices ranging from €3,100 to €3,250 for a Charolais cow and bull calf.
In-calf heifers
With a 93% clearance, lots levelled at €2,048 with prices ranging from €1,420 to €3,600.
Heifer weanling show and sale
“79% clearance of female weanlings with prices steady governed by quality,” Connellan added.
- < 300 kg – the average price achieved was €762 with a maximum price of €1,280 for a 275 kg Limousin;
- 300-400kg – the average price achieved was €880 with a maximum price of €2,040 for a 320 kg Limousin-cross;
- 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,060 with a maximum price of €1,480 for a 465 kg Charolais.
Lambs
All lambs presented for sale found news homes with prices as follows:
- 57 kg – €117;
- 5 kg – €115;
- 45 kg – €105;
- 5 kg – €88.5.
Ewes
Lastly, ewes ranged from €80 to €121, while breeding ewes clicked from €100 to €200.
