€2,850 Aileach View Hancock steals the show at Beltex sale

Demand “remained strong” for sheep – rams and ewes – at the Belgian Beltex Breeders’ Society of Ireland’s premier sale at Tullamore Mart on Friday, August 19th, 2022.

Sales topped at €2,850 for Aileach View Hancock, champion ram lamb and overall champion from the Aileach View flock of Jack O’Brien, Burnfoot, Co. Donegal.

The Aileach View flock’s ewe lamb, Aileach View Heebeejeebees ET, was awarded the champion female and reserve champion on the day also.

Judge on the day was Wade McCrabbe from the esteemed Ardstewart Flock, County Donegal.

Champion shearling ram and reserve male, Quarrymount Game Changer, found a new home at €2,000, while the champion shearling ewe, Ballinakill Gwenevere, headed to the same stable at €1,620.

Speaking following the sale, a spokesperson for the society said:

“The premier sale is the society’s second sale of the year and timed for both pedigree and commercial farmers to prepare themselves for the upcoming breeding season.”

“It was no surprise from early on Friday afternoon that both sale averages and clearance rates would be high as a fantastic standard of sheep was put forward in all classes,” the spokesperson concluded.
