Springing heifers reach €2,740 at Elphin Mart

An 88% clearance was recorded in the cull cow ring at Elphin Mart on Monday (October 12th), according to Gerry Connellan.

The mart manager reported “very good” demand for good quality entries. The average price achieved was €1,219 as cows ranged from €530 to €1780 for a 925 kg Charolais.

Springers

94% of springers offered for sale found news homes, levelling at an average of €1,890.

Entries ranged from €1,420 to €2,740 for a Limousin heifer due the end of October to EBY.

Heifer weanlings

  • < 300 kg – The average price achieved was €767 with a maximum price of €930 for a 250 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400 kg – The average price achieved was €811 with a maximum of €990 for a 335 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – The average price achieved was €770 with a maximum of €800 for a 410 kg Limousin.
Bull weanlings

“90% clearance of bull weanlings with prices governed by quality,” Connellan added.

  • < 300 kg – The average price achieved was €780 with a maximum of €960 for a 285 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400kg – The average price was €855 with a maximum of €1,030 for a 330 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – The average price achieved was €895 with a maximum of €980 for a 500 kg Limousin.
Sheep

81% clearance of lambs with prices as follows:

  • 50 kg – €116;
  • 47 kg €108;
  • 44 kg – €100;
  • 5kg – €83.

Breeding ewes sold from €130 to €175, while rams ranged from €300 to €340.
