Castlecove Beauty up for grabs in Irish Shorthorn Society draw

Áine O’Donovan, PRO of the Irish Shorthorn Society, tells readers about its heifer draw and forthcoming sale dates.

The Irish Shorthorn Society is currently running its annual heifer draw. And this year, we have a beautiful Pedigree Beef Shorthorn, roan maiden heifer up for grabs.

Castlecove Beauty is March-2022-born and registered with the Irish Shorthorn Society.

The heifer is genotyped, has a 4-star replacement, and is sired by Doon Jupiter – SH4929.

Jupiter is mixing very well with both pedigree and commercial cows to breed stylish replacements.

Shorthorn genetics are a bonus in any herd, from their fantastic maternal traits to their docility, and their wonderful colour. This heifer could be a wonderful addition to any pedigree or commercial herd.

The draw has been taking place for a number of years now and each year a wonderful Beef Shorthorn Heifer has been acquired as our special prize.

The draw was created to further promote the Shorthorn breed. It allows farmers to consider the many wonderful advantages of using Shorthorn genetics in their herd when they may not have before.

Why Shorthorn?

Shorthorns are docile, easily managed, milky, and easily fleshed which makes them a super cow in any herd.

For pedigree breeders, it is a great opportunity to acquire new bloodlines in their already established herds.

The draw is a wonderful element at our premier sale as it creates a great buzz and some extra excitement for those purchasing tickets.

The money raised is put back into the society to provide a herd book service to Shorthorn breeders in Ireland, catering for both Beef and Milking Shorthorn, along with supporting different events and sending correspondence to our members around the country.

The draw creates a lot of interest each year and allows one lucky winner to acquire a beautiful pedigree heifer for their herd.

Ticket prizes

For as little as €5 per ticket, you could be the new owner of this wonderful cow-maker.

We also have a special deal of €25 for half a card (6 lines) or €40 for a full card (12 lines).

There is also a cash alternative of €2,000 for first prize.

These tickets are available from the society office during weekdays on 086-0461442. Alternatively, you can contact your local Shorthorn Breeder or Council Member for tickets.

We also aim to have representation at a number of shows and club sales to purchase tickets, please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates. A new sale is being set up in West Cork along with a YDP & Breeders Information Day.
