Farming News/ Mart Reports on That’s Farming – Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 17-08-2023
According to Brendan Egan, some 400 lots crossed the scales at Castlerea Mart’s cattle sale on Thursday, August 17th, 2023.
The mart manager reported that “better quality stock were presented for sale and this was reflected in trade”.
“There was a sharper trade all around for stock,” he commented following Thursday’s general cattle sale.
The bullock ring saw prices top out at €2060 with quality lighter stores meeting an improved trade, according to Egan.
The heifer ring had a “similar tone”, with lots topping out at €1880 with more farmer activity for stores than the previous week.
The dry cow trade saw lots peak at €1950 with a good clearance of lots, while the weanling rings witnessed bulls peak at €3.40 a kilo, while heifer weanlings reached highs of €3.60 a kilo.
Meanwhile, cows with calves at foot made up to €2100, while the calf ring, with fewer numbers on offer, recorded a full clearance.
