Trade ‘remains strong’ in Castlerea with prices to €2,240

Farming News/Mart Reports: Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 20-07-2023

According to Brendan Egan, a larger entry of stock came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s general weekly sale on Thursday, July 20^th, 2023.

Trade, the mart manager reported, “remained strong” for quality tops with the quality store bullocks making up to €3.70/kg.

Other classes of stock were similar in price to the previous week with heifers to €1670, dry cows to €2110 and while cows with calves at foot peaked at €2240.

Meanwhile, the weanling rings witnessed good demand with bulls making up to €3.59/kg and heifers to €3.33/kg.

According to Egan, a smaller number of calves crossed the scales, but a “good” clearance took place.

Suckler pairs, calves, and runners:

• Cows with calves at foot pushed from €1010 to €2240 for a 11-year-old Limousin cow and her Limousin bull calf at foot;
• Springer cows topped at €900;
• Calves/young calves ranged from €50 to €460;
• Runners made from €400 to €850.

Dry cow prices:
