A driver and passenger of a van were hospitalised, following a road traffic collision with a milk lorry in County Limerick yesterday (Saturday, April 10th, 2021).
The incident occurred at 12:30pm in the Kiloughteen area of Newcastle West.
Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána:
“Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving a van and a tractor unit that occurred in that Kiloughteen area of Newcastle West on 10/04/2021 at approximately 12.30pm.”
“The driver of the van, a man and a woman, aged in their 60s, were taken to UHL with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigations are ongoing.” the spokesperson concluded.
According to Limerick Leader, two units from Newcastle West Fire Service attended the scene, along with An Garda Síochána.
The publication understands that the milk lorry driver “may have taken evasive action to avoid a more serious collision”.
Furthermore, there were traffic delays for a “number of hours as the milk lorry and van were removed”.
Limerick farmyard incident
Meanwhile, Gardaí have launched an investigation after a male (30s) received fatal injuries in a farmyard incident in County Limerick.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 1st, 2021.
Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:
“Gardaí are investigating a workplace death, that occurred on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at approximately 10 a.m. at Kilgrogan, Adare, County Limerick.”
“A man (late 30s) received fatal injuries in a farmyard incident. His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will be conducted. The HSA has been notified and investigations are ongoing.”
Court for lorry driver transporting fertiliser
In other news, Gardaí arrested a HGV driver, who was transporting fertiliser, in Laois on Thursday, April 1st, 2021.
Members of An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly detected multiple road traffic-related offences.
The motorist is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court in connection with the offences.
In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Garda Síochána Laois Offaly, said:
“Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol today encountered an articulated truck with an unsecured cargo that had shed its load near Ballacolla.”
“The driver does not have the qualifying licence or insurance to drive this HGV and was also not using a tachograph. The truck had not been taxed in 4 years and has also been seized. The driver has been charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court.” the spokesperson added.
