Motorcyclist (29) dies following collision with tractor

A male motorcyclist, aged in his late 20s, has died following a collision with a tractor.

The fatal road traffic collision occurred on the R173 at Drumullagh in Co. Louth shortly before 4 pm yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“The fatal collision involved a motorcycle and a tractor. The male motorcyclist, 29 years of age was fatally injured and his body has been removed from the scene and taken to the Mortuary in The Louth County Hospital, Dundalk.”

“A post-mortem will take place at a later date. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.”

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Gardaí have urged any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R173 at Drumullagh, between 3.30p.m. and 4 pm to make this footage available to them.

Investigating Gardaí have asked anyone with information to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

RTC in Monaghan

Meanwhile, last week we reported that in nearby Monaghan, a woman (30s) was hospitalised after being struck by a tractor.

The incident occurred on Main Street, Carrickmacross, on Wednesday evening, November 9th 2022, just before 6 pm.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí in Carrickmacross were alerted to a serious RTC on Main Street, Carrickmacross, on Wednesday evening, 9th November, 2022, at approximately 5.55p.m.”

“A tractor struck a female pedestrian (early 30s) who was seriously injured and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she is currently receiving treatment.

“The driver of the tractor was uninjured. The main street of Carrickmacross is currently closed, and local diversions are in place. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson concluded.
