According to George Candler, some 800 lots crossed the scales at Kilkenny Mart’s most recent cattle sale on Thursday, September 21st, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that “quality lots are still selling well but plainer types have reduced in price”.

“More cattle are visually not looking as well as a few weeks ago due to the recent spell of weather,” he added.

Bullocks topped at €2,130, while heifers sold to €1,850 at Thursday’s sale.

Beef bullocks – 600kgs+ – €2.00-€2.95/kg or €1,300-€2,130/head:

  • 2 AA – 800kgs – €2,130;
  • 2 FR – 750kgs – €1,790;
