Over €67,000 in prize money in cattle section alone at 197th Iverk Show

There is truly something for everyone at the Iverk Show: show horses, show jumping, cattle, sheep, dog show, poultry, photography, flower arranging, vegetables, flowers, eggs, honey, baking, jam, arts and crafts, fashion show, bonny baby competition, vintage show, tug of war competition, music, and dancing.

Over €67,000 of a prize money cash pot is up for grabs across 49 cattle classes alone with 13 championships at this year’s Iverk Show, Co Kilkenny which takes place on Saturday, August 26th, 2023.

A wide variety of breeds are on show this year with classes for Shorthorn, Hereford, Aubrac, Simmental, Blonde D’Aquitaine, Limousin, Charolais and Belgian Blue.

The show’s pedigree cattle section has 17 classes with 8 championships and a prize fund of over €7,000.

We will also host the Aldi, ABP, Irish Angus All Ireland Bull Championship with each of the three classes offering €3,500 in prize money.

There will also be a prize of €1,000 for the leading female, ‘An Banrionn Dubh.

The Angus Tréad na hEireann Final will be held at Iverk again this year with a trio consisting of a cow, an in calf/maiden heifer born before 01.08.2022 and a male/female calf born on or after 01.08.22, with the Tréad nah Eireann Final offering a prize fund of €1,300.

The Aldi Irish Angus YDP Junior Stockperson and the Young Handler classes have a prize fund of over €3,320.

Highlights

Our dairy section has a vast programme again this year with a prize fund of over €9,000. The ‘Maid of Tirlán’ returns and we also have 5 prizes for the ‘The Best Udder’.

Classes for young people: We have the Irish Holstein Friesian Association Showmanship League for junior, intermediate, and senior members, the Hereford Young Handler competition, and also a new class this year for a non-pedigree bull or heifer calf led by a junior under 16 years of age.

Our commercial cattle section is offering a prize fund of over €9,000 with plenty of choices across the 10 classes.

The cattle committee are delighted to be involved with The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in running The Breeders’ Choice Traditional 4* or 5* Breeding Heifer, where some of the country’s best heifers will be on show.

In addition, there are 12 sheep classes with classes for pedigree and non-pedigree sheep and great prize money to be won.
