Farming News/Mart Reports: Headford Mart – Cattle and Sheep Prices – 12-07-2023

Headford Mart kicked off its annual sheep sale of the season on Saturday, August 12th, 2023, with a large entry of sheep in all classes.

That is according to a spokesperson who reported that “some bench marker prices were recorded” at its most recent sale.

A spokesperson said: “Headford Mart would like to congratulate all our prize winners from the day on their exceptional display of stock, especially Paddy Creaven for maintaining his winning streak and taking home the Christy O’Connor Perpetual Cup for the second year running”.

Sheep 

Store / factory lambs

  • 48 kg making €124 per head or 2.58 kg;
  • 35 kg making €75 per head or 2.14 kg;
  • 44 kg making €126 per head or 2.86 kg;
  • 47 kg making €152 per head or 3.23 kg;
  • 50 kg making €154 per head or 3.08 kg;
  • 51 kg making €161 per head or 3.16 kg.

Culls

  • 81 kg making €138 per head or 1.70 kg;
  • 80 kg making €144 per head or 1.80 kg.

Other prices:

  • Breeding ewes – €118-€177/head;
  • Breeding ewe hogget – Prices from €160 up to €232 per head. Average across the board of €196/head achieved, according to a spokesperson.

Cattle prices

Meanwhile, the spokesperson reported that “an even trade” prevailed for cattle overall with similar numbers on offer to previous weeks.

  • CHX – 425 kg – €1120 or €2.64 kg;
