Headford’s Charolais weanling show & sale records ‘some eyebrow-raising prices’

Headford Co-operative Livestock Mart’s annual Charolais weanling show and sale “got the season off to a phenomenal start with some eyebrow-raising prices forked out from the ring against our online contenders”.

That is according to a spokesperson who told www.thatsfarming.com, that “prices were on fire with the trade for weanling bulls being the dearest for some absolute show-stoppers”.

Prize-winners were as follows:

Bulls

  • 1st place going to Jim Fitzgerald of Clonbur. Jim also went on to claim the overall champion of the show;
  • 2nd place went to David Kavanagh of Annaghdown.

Heifers:

  • 1st place was scooped by Brendan O’Flynn of Annaghdown;
  • 2nd place went to Denis Mc Hugh from Headford.

Prize money sponsored by the Irish Charolais Cattle Society.

According to the mart, the best price per kg was € 4.58 with an average of € 3.14 across the board.

Weanling heifer prices:
  • 345 kg – €1060 or €3.07/kg;
  • 320 kg – € 1060 or €3.31/kg;
  • 350 kg – € 1080 or €3.09/kg;
  • 335 kg – €1070 or €3.19/kg;
  • 340 kg – €1120 or €3.29/kg;
  • 385 kg – €1180 or €3.06/kg;
  • 355 kg – €1280 or €3.61/kg.

Weanling bull prices:

  • 430 kg – €1680 or €3.91/kg;
  • 390 kg – €1660 or €4.26/kg;
  • 410 kg – €1650 or €4.02/kg;
  • 410 kg – €1610 or €4.41/kg;
  • 380 kg – €1590 or €4.18/kg;
  • 345 kg – €1530 or €4.43/kg;
  • 390 kg – €1500 or €3.85/kg;
  • 360 kg – €1500 or €4.17/kg;
  • 325 kg – €1160 or €3.57/kg;
  • 395 kg – €1180 or €2.99/kg;
  • 345 kg – €1350 or €3.91/kg.
