Cattle trade improves in all rings in Ennis

Farming News/Mart Reports on That’s Farming: Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 19-09-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, numbers “fell slightly” at Tuesday’s (September 19^th, 2023), sale, due to the staging of the National Ploughing Championships, with just short of 400 on offer.

The spokesperson noted that “despite the severe weather, trade improved in all rings, with a serious demand for bulls and more farmer buyers in the heifer ring”.

“The sale attracted only a handful of sucklers, and pairs topped out at €3,000.”

“Again, a handful of calves came under the hammer and a top price of €440 was achieved for a SIX bull calf,” the spokesperson added.

Last week’s sale

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 450 lots crossed the scales at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, September 12^th, 2023.

In-calf lots climbed to €2,200 in the suckler ring and pairs made to €2,490.

The spokesperson noted that “trade was dearer in the bulls and this was driven by more farmer activity”.
