Highs of €5.19/kg for weanling heifers in Ennis

Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 07-02-2023

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 800 lots came under the hammer at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, February 7^th, 2023.

They noted that pairs in the suckler ring made to €2,460 and in calf-lots fetched up to €2,480.

The spokesperson described trade for calves as “good” with a top call of €700 recorded for a 6-week-old LM bull calf.

Aberdeen Angus calves fetched from €120 to €180 and Hereford-cross calves hit €370 for bulls.

The spokesperson commented: “Some very fancy prices in both the heifer and bull rings with a high of €5.19/kg in the heifer ring and €4.20/kg in the bull ring.”

“It must be said that we had some great quality stock on offer. There was serious demand for organic stock that was available at Tuesday’s sale,” the spokesperson added.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just under 700 lots – a larger entry than the previous week – came under the hammer at its most recent sale on Tuesday, January 24^th, 2023.

They reported that “a strong” trade prevailed “all around” at Tuesday’s sale, which saw prices peak at €2,820 in the suckler ring.

They noted that in-calf lots hit €2,020, while elsewhere, in the weanling ring, bulls met with “a strong trade” on the back of demand from shippers and farmers, who were “very active”.

The spokesperson remarked: “Heifers were a very strong trade with a few exceptional prices, and over €5.00/kg was achieved in this ring.”

“There were 25 calves available, and these met with a strong trade, but lots on offer were either Aberdeen Angus-types or continentals.”
