VID: Jan-born Gangnam Style sells for €6,700 in Carrick-on-Shannon

An ET January-2023-born Dutch Spotted ram lamb has set a new Irish breed record after selling for €6,700 at the breed association’s annual sale at The Showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Dwayne Shiels, Co Donegal bred lot 38, Woodtown Gangnam Style, the son of Woodview Eva, herself a Challoch Bearskin (has bred females to £11,000) daughter, and Craigdoo Fabio ET, by the famed Carlaustan Extrovert, the 2022 Balmoral champion, who has bred lambs to £28,000 and 2022 Balmoral champion, Kilroot Electric.

Woodview Eva is a consistent flushing female and is out of the same ewe that bred the overall champion at the Irish Dutch Spotted Association’s premier sale in 2021.

On Saturday, August 5th, he stood first in his class of 37 ram lambs, before clinching the male champion title and the sale’s reserve overall champion silverware.

Ahead of the sale, Shiels described him as having “super skin, top and end and a serious head”.

“We think a lot of this lamb. He was the first prize-winning ram lamb in Finn Valley and second at the All-Ireland Championships in Clonmel.”

“He will go on to do a serious job for whatever flock he goes to,” he remarked.

Auctioneer, Francis McGowan secured an opening bid of €800, and he was met with a flurry of ringside and online activity before he finally dropped the hammer at €6,700.

ET sisters

Gangnam Style’s full ET sisters, Gaby, Gucci, and Gennie, sold for €5,400, €4,700, and €2,600, respectively, at the timed virtual auction, Luscious Ladies Sale, in conjunction with Tullow Livestock Sales and MartEye.

The Luscious Ladies timed virtual auction, which drew to a close on Monday, July 24th, 2023, reached new heights with a top call of €5,400 for a January-2023-born Dutch Spotted ewe lamb, Woodtown Gaby.

Woodtown Pedigrees, property of Dwayne, and Gerard Shiels, hosted the sale in conjunction with guest consigners, Woodview and Killclug.
