€55,000 cottage in need of ‘little imagination and some investment’

Cottage for Sale

New to the market at €55,000 is a G BER-rated 2-bed detached cottage in Loughrea, which Galway County Council constructed during the 1940s.

Noel Hogan of Brian Tuohy Auctioneers is handling the sale of the property in Knockmoyle East, Kylebrack, which requires “extensive” renovation.

He described this as a “simple” roadside cottage – standing on a spacious site of 0.7-acres – with similar properties on either side.

The living accommodation consists of:

  • Kitchen/living room;
  • Sitting room;
  • Two bedrooms;
  • Small scullery at the rear;
  • Entrance hall;
  • Back kitchen.

The selling agent continued: “There is no water supply and no bathroom. The house has been unoccupied for many years, and the previous occupants captured rainwater for washing and cooking.”

“The electricity supply has also been disconnected. A solid fuel range provided heat in the living room, but central heating was never installed.”

“However, there is plenty of room for an extension, a deep bored well, and for a septic tank and with a little imagination and some investment, this forgotten roadside cottage could become a cosy home.”

The property is located approximately two miles from the village of Ballinakill on the R353, going in the direction of Gort in “the heart” of the Sliabh Aughty mountains.
