Farming News/Mart Reports on That’s Farming – Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 14-09-2023
Thursday, September 14th, 2023, saw over 400 lots cross the scales at Castlerea Mart, according to Brendan Egan.
He reported a “favourable tone” to trade and noted that weanlings, in particular, continued to be in “strong” demand from both exporters, farmers and feedlots with bulls making up to €4.15/kg.
Heifers, Egan added, were a “fine” trade also as farmers were out in force replacing sold stock.
Heifers made up to €1,890 and dry cows topped out at €2030 at Thursday’s sale.
Castlerea Mart on 14-09-2023
- Cows with calves at foot made from €1440 to €2200/unit;
- Springers ranged from €1340 to €1500;
- Calves/Runners: Young calves traded from €220 – €320 with runners from €330 to €850 for continental type lots.

The mart’s Monday bullock sales resumed on September 11th, 2023, with 200 lots on offer.
Trade witnessed prices soar to €2360 with increased demand for both lighter and forward type lots, according to Egan.
