Farming News/Mart Reports – Castlerea Mart – 24-08-2023
According to Brendan Egan of Castlerea Mart, some 550 lots came under the hammer at its most recent cattle sale on Thursday, August 24th, 2023.
The mart manager reported that “all categories noticed increased numbers for sale”.
“Trade remained unchanged with quality stores still much sought after, while this year’s weanlings have started on a very positive note.”
Bullocks topped out at €1860, heifers hit €1810, while dry cows made up to €2220.
Meanwhile, weanling bulls peaked at €3.61/kg, while weanling heifers topped out at €3.41/kg.

- Cows with calves at foot made from €1050 to €1850;
- Springer cows topped at €1460;
- Young calves went under the hammer from €50 to €210;
- Runners pushed from €150 to €800 for continental lots.
