Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 13-04-2023

According to Brendan Egan, inclement weather conditions resulted in a “slightly” smaller entry of cattle at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, April 13^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

The mart manager reported that trade “remained firm,” with demand for quality stock remaining “very high”.

The heifer ring saw prices reach €2,040, with top-quality feeding stores breaking the €4.00/kg barrier at Thursday’s general cattle sale.

The weanling rings witnessed bulls peak at €4.21 a kilo, and a top price of €2,340 was forked out for a 370kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer or €6.32 a kilo. The dry cow ring saw prices top out at €2550 while cows with calves at foot made up to €2510, and springers followed at €2520.

Meanwhile, the calf ring reported a “good” clearance with a variance in price, depending on quality.
