Capsized cattle ship: Search for crew called off

A special search for the missing crew of the Gulf Livestock 1, which capsized during a typhoon last week, has been called off.

According to ABC News, authorities have made the decision in light of an unsuccessful attempt to locate any survivors since last Friday.

Three people from the ship have been found, one of whom has passed away.

It is understood that authorities will search for survivors, but as part of their regular patrols in the area.

The ship was carrying just under 6,000 cattle and 43 crew when it capsized whilst travelling from New Zealand to Japan.

It sent a distress call near Amani Oshima island after Typhoon Maysak hit the region with winds of up to 130km/hr.
