Calls for €100/head beef payments to be issued immediately

The chairperson of ICMSA’s livestock committee has called on the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine to immediately issue the Beef Finisher Payment.

Des Morrison said this is in line with the commitment made by the department to make a payment rate of approximately €100/head to all eligible applicants in November.

‘Much-needed cash boost’

He outlined the payment relates to losses suffered by farmers in the February 1st to June 12th, period.

Given that the closing date for applications was early September, he added, it was to be expected that farmers should be receiving this payment without any further delay.

Morrison said that set against the serious profitability issues in beef production and the annual bills traditionally paid at this time of year, the issue and receipt of this payment would give farmer cashflow a “much-needed” boost.
