Farming News/Mart Reports: Aurivo Balla Mart – Cattle Prices – 24-06-2023

According to Stephen Hannon, cattle numbers increased at Aurivo Balla Mart’s most recent sale on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, which saw two rings in operation.

The mart manager and general manager of Aurivo Marts reported that prices reached €2,120 in the bullock ring, €2,020 in the heifer ring, €2,280 in the cull cow category and suckler pairs topped at €2,690.

Bullock prices:

Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €3.02/kg, while stores in the 400kg to 500kg weight bracket levelled at €2.96 p/kg, while heavier bullocks 500kg averaged 2.54 p/kg.

Quality heavy bullocks, 700kg+, made up to €1,300 with the weight, with a LMX, 790kgs, making €2,120.

  • CHX – 600kgs – €1,680;

Heifer prices:

Meanwhile, in ring two, some 150 lots of heifers came under the hammer. Lighter store heifers 300 – 400kg averaged €3.27/kg, while heifers 400kg to 500kg levelled at €2.81/kg, while those 500kg+ averaged €2.85/kg.

The highest price per kg was €4.20/kg for a BBX weighing 345kg at €1,450, while the highest price was €1,580 for a 440kg, BBX, while the highest price was a CHX, 750kgs at €2,020.

Dry cow prices:

Dry cows were sold after the mart’s entry of bullocks and bull weanlings.

According to Hannon, “There was a fine sale of dry cows, and prices are sticking firm with interest from Northern Ireland buyers online plus others, with ranges of €2.50-€3.00/kg for lots at the upper end of the market”.

Topping this category at €2,280 was a 775kg Limousin cow born in May 2018 that made €2,280 or €3.02/kg.

In the sucklers, a farmer from Heathvally, Westport had a March 2018-born cow with a BBX bull calf at foot that made €2,690.

Weanling bulls:

Weanling bulls 200kg to 350kg averaged €3.03/kg, while those in the 350kg to 450kg weight bracket levelled at €3.01/kg.
