VIDEO: New shed cleaning machine separates animal manure and bedding

Hanskamp has taken the wraps off its latest innovative product, the Bedding Cleaner, following its success with the CowToilet.

According to the company, its latest invention can provide two sources of organic fertiliser, whilst making bedding dry and hygienic and increasing cow comfort.

As part of the product launch, the company has also introduced a new concept, entitled a ‘Free Living Barn’.

The Bedding Cleaner drives through the ‘Free Living Barn’ and picks up cow dropping and other moist pieces of the bedding, leaving nothing behind but clean bedding and a neat barn.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “If it were up to Hanskamp, there would be no more slurry in this new barn concept.”

“How is this possible? By combining the free-range barn principle with Hanskamp’s latest innovation: the Bedding Cleaner.”

Free Living Barn

A ‘Free Living Barn’ is a barn without concrete, steel, and grids, but with a fine bedding, so that an optimal living climate is created for the cow, the company explained.

It claims the FreeLivingBarn, in combination with the right bedding, results in high-quality organic fertilisers and, therefore, a better soil.

Organic matter is important for the soil. A good supply of organic matter is essential for a good crop yield.

Bedding Cleaner

The BeddingCleaner is Hanskamp’s latest innovation. This advanced machine is essential within the VrijLevenStal concept.

“The BeddingCleaner removes the daily fresh cowpats from the bed. The bedding in the barn can consist of flax or other grain waste, but the Bedding Cleaner can also drive through drainage sand with ease.”

How does it work?

“The operation of the BeddingCleaner is as follows: the machine is driven over the bed and picks up the cowpats from the bed with a sieving belt.

“The cowpats are sieved on the sieving belt and then end up in the collection tray of the machine.”

“At the end of the ride with the BeddingCleaner, there is a dry and tight bed ready for the cows again and the dairy farmer has a high-quality fertiliser that can be used to enrich the soil life on his/her land.”

Hanskamp

From its location in Doetinchem, Hanskamp has been developing innovative and practice-oriented solutions for livestock farming for more than twenty years.

Its initial focus was on helping farmers increase their herd’s milk production. Ten years ago, the focus shifted to more cow comfort with the walk-through FeedStation.

With the idea that livestock farming, and sustainability can go hand in hand, five years ago Hanskamp started focusing on the environment.
