Ennis Mart, Tuesday, February 2^nd, 2021

Welcome to this week’s Ennis Mart report. Just over 1,000 lots were on offer at the mart’s cattle sale on Tuesday, February 2^nd, according to a spokesperson.

They noted that the sale attracted a large entry of suckler stock, including a clearance of 50 cows.

“Pairs in this ring hit €2,400 and in-calf lots made to €1,700. Calf [numbers] still remaining small, with 40 lots in offer.”

“These topped out at €540 for 2-month-old Limousin bull calf.  AA calves made €140 to €240. Friesian bulls made €70 to €130. Runner heifers made to €750 and runner bulls hit a high of €830.”

“The quality in both the bull weanlings and heifer weanlings was more mixed today and the lesser lots were easier by about €20, whereas the top quality lots held the trade.” the spokesperson concluded.

Mart prices – Last week’s sale

Just under 700 entries, including weanlings, calves and sucklers, were presented for sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, January 26^th, according to a spokesperson.

They reported that the sale attracted a larger entry than the previous week, with trade “quite strong yet again”.

“Calf numbers increased slightly but mostly continentals on offer and €550 was achieved for a 2-month-old Charolais bull. One Friesian bull on offer and he made €120.”

“A good entry of suckler stock again with in-calf lots hitting €1,910.  Pairs hit €1,980 today. Trade was quite strong in the bulls and heifers again today and bulls were a shade dearer, but quality was better in the bull ring also.”
