A 24-month-old Charolais-cross bullock is set to come under the hammer at Kanturk Mart, in conjunction with Duhallow Supports Marymount in aid of Marymount Hospice, on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023.
This sale of the bullock – which was donated by a family that wishes to stay anonymous – coincides with a concert & raffle being held in the mart on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 8 pm.
Michelle Hallihan of Kanturk Mart told Catherina Cunnane, editor of www.thatsfarming.com,
“Duhallow Supports Marymount is a concert featuring a host of local talent coming together to raise funds for Marymount.”
“It is a ticket-only event, and tickets cost €20 for entry on the night. They are available from a host of different venues in the Duhallow region.”
“Also, on the night, there will be a monster raffle with six fantastic prizes the tickets for this are €10, and these are available from the mart office,” Hallihan added.
Raffle prizes are as follows:
- 1st – 2 nights with breakfast and evening meal in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen;
- 2 – 1 night in the Maritime Hotel, Bantry, with breakfast;
3 – 1 night in River Lee Hotel, Cork, with breakfast; - 4 – 1 night in Kingsley Hotel, Cork, with breakfast;
- 5 – 1 night in Harding Hotel, Dublin;
- 6 – A day trip to the Dáil.
Last week’s cattle prices
According to Callum Taylor of Kanturk Mart, Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, saw some 300 lots, including 160 calves, on offer.
Taylor reported “a great trade all around”, with sample prices across the cull cow, heifer, calf and bullock categories as follows:
Calves:
- Limousin bulls up to €525;
- HE bulls from €180-€305;
- HE heifers – €205-€280.
Bullocks:
- 6 AAX – 435kgs – €1,020;
- 4 AAX – 475kgs – €1,140;
- 6 LMX – 365kgs – €1,100.
Heifers:
- 4 BBX – 336kgs – €1,010;
- 6 LMX – 390kgs – €790;
- 4 HE – 530kgs – €1,440.
Cull cows:
- FR – 660kgs – €1,220;
- FR – 730kgs – €1,410;
- FR – 720kgs – €1,300.
