Mart Report: Prices from €5 to €2,840 at Castlerea – Egan

Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 06-04-2023

According to Brendan Egan, larger numbers of stock came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, April 6^th, 2023.

Breeding stock, with increased numbers on offer, saw a top price of €2840 for a Limousin cow and her bull calf at foot.

Springer cows made up to €1790, while calves saw what the mart manager reported to be a “good” clearance, with continentals topping at €410.

Egan explained: “There were increased numbers of weanlings presented for sale as sellers availed of the strong prices on offer with bulls peaking at €4.75 a kilo, while heifers weanling topped out at €5.90 a kilo.”

“The heifer ring noticed stores making up to €3.88 a kilo, while heavier lots made up to €2150.”

“The cow ring saw forward cows making up to €2350 or €3.11 a kilo with a good number of lots on offer in this week’s sale,” Egan added.

• Calves: Dairy-cross calves pushed from €5- €50, while Aberdeen Angus-cross and Hereford-cross lots sold from €65 to €340 and continental types peaked at €410;

According to Egan, some 150 bullocks came under the hammer on Monday, with prices to €2510.
