An “exceptional” circa 10-acre elevated field near Gorey, Co. Wexford sold for €170,000 when it went for auction last week.
The in-person auction was conducted by Quinn Property at Carnew Mart, on Wednesday, December 9th to facilitate maximum social distancing.
Excellent quality lands at Kilmurry
Ahead of the auction, David Quinn noted the lands at Kilmurry enjoy an excellent location along the Kilmurry road, only 3km from Gorey’s Main Street.
“The lands are of excellent quality, currently in stubble and are suitable for all agricultural enterprises. The lands may have residential development potential (subject to planning permission).”
Guided at €15,000/acre
Before the auction, the property was guided in the region of €150,000 (€15,000 per acre).
On the day of the auction, bidding opened at €100,000. With activity from three bidders, the property reached €170,000 and was then declared on the market. There were no further bids after this point and so the hammer fell at €170,000 to a local businessman.
Auctioneer David Quinn
Speaking after proceedings, David Quinn remarked that “despite the unprecedented challenges presented by 2020, we had a 100% success rate at auction”.
“Furthermore, all properties exceeded their reserve, and there were several exceptional results,” he concluded.
