A county councillor has urged the public to think before they utilise pesticides on land.
Councillor Brendan Fay, Cavan County Council, made the appeal after highlighting the story of one beekeeper, who has been “wiped out”.
“This is what happens when we don’t think. A devastated local beekeeper has lost his hives, 50,000 bees in one hive alone as in the live video.”
“Bees are part of our food chain. Without bees, we cease to exist as the human race.”
“All because instead of going out to weed our gardens, we take the easy option and use deadly weedkillers. Please folks, think before you spray.”
“So many environmentally-friendly options to try before using the deadly option. A local beekeeper has been wiped out.”
“This has been a very tough time for Irish bees. The Irish honeybee is in trouble already. Let’s try to help them out!” he concluded.
