Up to €4.78/kg at Carnew’s special E and U grade weanling sale

There was “outstanding” demand for E and U grade export-type weanlings – Carnew Mart on Wednesday (September 16th), according to David Quinn.

The mart manager reported that the special Belgian Blue weanling show and sale attracted some 620 entries, adding that entries at the upper end of the scale ranged from €3.00-€4.78/kg.

  • 1st-prize BB bull – 460kg – €1760;
  • 1st-prize BB heifer – 322kg – €1540.

  • 1 BB – 334kg – €990;
  • 1 BB – 484kg – €1460;
  • 1 BB – 380kg – €1460;
  • 1 BB – 300kg – €1100;
  • 3 BB – 570kg – €1310;
  • 1 BB – 570kg – €1310;
  • 1 BB – 464kg – €1430;
  • 1 BB – 492kg – €1680;
  • 1 BB – 294kg – €1000;
  • 2 BB – 432kg – €1300;
  • 1 BB – 496kg – €1380;
  • 1 BB – 520kg – €1900.

Heifers:

  • 1 BB – 602kg – €2200;
  • 1 BB – 334kg – €1100;
  • 1 BB – 342kg – €1250;
  • 1 CH – 420kg – €1440;
  • 1 BB – 432kg – €1400;
  • 1 BB – 436kg – €1460;
  • 1 BB – 444kg – €1450;

Cattle sale

Just over 800 lots in total were presented for sale at its general cattle sale, on Saturday (September 19th) with demand for all types similar to the previous week, Quinn added.

“Quality store cattle are continuing to meet an excellent demand. Plainer cattle continued to meet a slower demand. Aberdeen-Angus bullocks and heifers were met with a strong feedlot demand.”
