Cattle prices ‘under pressure’ at Loughrea

Cattle prices were “under pressure” at Loughrea Mart, according to a mart spokesperson.

They said this is due to a scarcity of grass with the recent spell of dry weather.

Bullocks:

  • LMX – 400kg – €800;
  • CHX – 450kg – €1,065;
  • AAX – 585kg – €1,185;
  • AAX – 645kg – €1,300;
  • CHX – 695kg – €1,400;
  • LMX – 715kg – €1,350.

Heifers:

  • CHX – 400kg – €805;
  • CHX – 420kg – €920;
  • LMX – 435kg – €940;
  • CHX – 545kg – €1,175;
  • CHX – 595kg – €1,195;
  • LMX – 595kg – €1,270.

Cull cows:

  • LMX – 550kg – €1,100;
  • LMX – 575kg – €1,000;
  • CHX – 625kg – €750;
  • CHX – 690kg – €1,075;
  • CHX – 720kg – €1,380;
  • CHX – 725kg – €1,255.

Sheep

In the sheep sale, prices “held up fairly well,” reported the spokesperson.

They said with rumours circulating of factories cutting prices in the near future, farmers were happy to see lambs and sheep auctioned once again.

Lambs:

  • 42.5kg – €109;
  • 44.5kg – €111;
  • 45kg – €116;
  • 47kg – €120;
  • 48kg – €121;
  • 52.5kg – €125.

Cull ewes:

  • Heavy cull ewes – up to €110/head;
  • Light cull ewes – €60-€80/head.
