€4,000 for Charolais bull at Elphin

A 99% clearance was recorded in the cull cow ring at Elphin Mart on Monday, July 20th, according to Gerry Connellan.

The mart manager reported that prices held well, as entries achieved an average of €1,333; cows ranged in price from €670 to €1,850 for a Limousin weighing 965kg.

Heifers

Connellan said that 94% of heifers offered for sale found new homes.

  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €844 with a maximum of €1,020 for 385 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,052 with a maximum of €1,240 for a 490 kg Charolais;
  • > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,261 with a maximum of €1,430 for a 675 kg Charolais.

Bullocks

A 97% clearance was recorded in the bullock ring with quality described as “good”.

  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €853 with a maximum of €920 for a 335 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,064 with a maximum of €1,170 for a 470 kg Charolais;
  • > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,467 with a maximum of €1,820 for a 805 kg Charolais.

Weanlings

“100% clearance of bull weanlings with prices improved but governed by quality.”

  • <300 kg – the average price was €623 with a maximum of €690 for a 280 kg Limousin;
  • 300-400 kg – the average price was €748 with a maximum price of €900 for a 400 kg Limousin;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €990 with a maximum of €1,120 for a 500 kg Charolais;
  • > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,275 with a maximum price of €1,350 for a 685 kg Limousin. 

Heifer weanlings

“82% clearance of heifer weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • <300 kg – the average price achieved was €705 with a maximum of €780 for a 300 kg Limousin;
  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €859 with a maximum of €1000 for a 350 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €855 with a maximum of €880 for a 410 kg Limousin.

Pedigrees

The mart’s pedigree sale recorded a 68%, according to Connellan.

Charolais males averaged €1,794 and ranged from €1,040 to €4,300 for a Fiston-sired son, while an average price of €800 was forked out for Charolais females.

Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to an average of €1,203, as prices ranged from €1,000 to €1,520.

Aberdeen Angus females averaged €1,064 as prices ranged from €900 to €1,280, while a suckler pair climbed to €1,740.

An average €1,020 was recorded for Limousin males as prices ranged from €990 to €1,050.

Simmental males sold to an average of €1,073 as prices ranged from €800 to €1,480. The average price paid for a Shorthorn male was €1,150.

Sheep

83% of lambs presented for sale found new homes, according to the mart manager, who reported a full clearance for ewes, which ranged from €15-€130.

Lambs:

  • 44 kg – €125;
  • 51.5 kg – €115;
  • 45 kg – €112;
  • 41.5.5k – €101;
  • 39 kg – €90;
  • 33 kg €77.
