New ESB recruitment drive with 1,000 posts

ESB has confirmed its intentions to recruit 1,000 people – including 300 graduates – over the next three years.

It has launched the recruitment drive to support the delivery of its ambitious Driven to Make a Difference: Net Zero by 2040 strategy.

It will offer posts across a range of technical and specialist skills, including finance, IT, HR, engineering, customer service and qualified electricians.

ESB is seeking to fill the following roles:

  • Engineering – Offshore wind, renewables, network planning, asset development, environmental, civil, electrical and mechanical and environment. Includes marine biologists and geologists, geotechnical roles and hydrology scientists
  • IT – Cyber specialists, Data Scientists and AI, Digital and Cloud specialists, project management
  • Graduates, Trainees and Apprentices – Graduate development programme, ESB networks apprentice programme. Also trainee and apprentice roles in finance, IT, HR, engineering, commercial
  • HR and Commercial – Procurement, financial accountants, commercial analysts, trading, human resources and customer service.
Strategy 

ESB’s 2040 strategy Driven to Make a Difference: Net Zero by 2040 sets out a “clear” roadmap for ESB to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

It also commits ESB to a Science-Based Target for 2030 to provide assurance that it is decarbonising our operations at the “necessary” pace and scale.

The strategy sets out a pathway to achieve net zero in a way that supports its “continued growth and financial capacity” to invest in a net-zero future.

ESB Group employs approximately 8,000 people across its diverse range of businesses.

These include ESB Networks, Electric Ireland, ESB International, ESB Telecoms, NIE Networks, Generation and Trading, ecars and ESB’s Smart Energy Services.

This job announcement follows the recent ESB Networks’ annual Apprentice Recruitment Campaign.

Up to 96 electrical apprentices start later this year, with the prestigious ESB Graduate Programme also commencing in September 2022.
