VIDEO: Sheepdog sells for record-breaking £20,000

A new world record price for a working sheepdog was set at a virtual online auction recently.

Henna, a November-2016-born tri-coloured bitch, sold for £20,000 (approximately €21,890), the highest price ever paid for a dog at an official sale.

She came from Welsh breeder and triallist, Kevin Evans, who described her as a “proven breeder of top-quality offspring”.

‘Full of natural ability and class’

Ahead of the virtual auction run by Skipton Auction Mart, Evans said: “Quality fully trained female with many trial placings.”

“Great outrunners, full of natural ability and class, easy to handle. Experienced at all types of farm work.”

“DNA normal for CEA, IGS, TNS, SN, GGD, NCL and raine syndrome.”

Henna was acquired by Donna Jones, a hill farmer from South Wales, who runs a 750-strong flock with her husband.

Kevin’s father, David, held the previous world record for the most expensive working collie, changing hands for £19,451 in June.
