Gardaí are investigating the recovery of a vehicle from a lake in Co. Clare.
The alert was raised by a fisherman who detected an image of the car on sonar equipment.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The Garda Water Unit were in Broadford, Clare a few weeks ago and a vehicle was recovered and brought to the surface. Transpires it was stolen in 1998!”
“Killaloe Gardaí spoke to a local fisherman who had picked up an image on sonar equipment.”
“The fisherman met the water unit and brought them to the location on the lake. Further enquiries to be made.” the spokesperson concluded.
