Kilkenny Mart report: Sharper trade but snowfall reduces sale size

Just over 200 cattle were on offer at Kilkenny Mart’s first cattle sale on Thursday, January 7^th.

The mart’s auctioneer, George Candler, noted that prices were sharper, especially for forward cattle and cull cows.

Speaking following the sale, he said: “Today’s sale in Kilkenny was a small affair with this morning’s snowfall preventing a number of farmers who had entered cattle from travelling.”

“The limited number of animals on offer meet a good selling trade resulting in an almost 100% clearance.”

“Prices were sharper, especially for cattle with flesh and cull cows. This sale would suggest there are still many potential buyers looking to source cattle.”
